One of the problems of doing the kind of work that I do is that it takes a lot of intensive thinking. Every now and then, the thinking muscle gets tired - usually after a busy period of work - and my concentration goes completely. On Monday I sat at the Mac all day forcing myself to work, but probably only got half the usual amount done.
The cure, of course, is to get out in the fresh air, go somewhere different, take some exercise and talk to other people. I did all four yesterday when I went to see my good friend and client, Paul Telfer. “Telf” lives in a little village on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors. We had a good walk and a pub lunch in Hornby, one of the most out-of-the-way villages in North Yorks.
We also discussed sales of Paul’s book, Personal Statements, which helps sixth-formers in UK schools write UCAS personal statements for university entry. As you may have seen if you’ve looked in the portfolio, I’ve been looking after the marketing and PR for the project. Last year we had fantastic sales and we’re hoping for better this year. If you know a student who is applying this year or next, why not visit the website and take a look?
As ever, the moors scenery was superb, and it was just the sort of day I love on the hills: high cloud, cool but not cold, overcast but not gloomy with a stiff breeze. The perfect place for a meeting!
