Vonnegut on writing

Eli over at Novelr has republished a list of writing tips by Kurt Vonnegut. If you’re interested in writing then you may come across the list before, as it seems to have become a bit of slow-burning internet meme, along with similar tip lists from writers like Elmore Leonard.

Vonnegut’s rules (eight of them rather than ten - but then, he did always insist on being the different one) are aimed at writers of fiction rather than copywriters, but they’re worth a look all the same, if only to give you a flavour of the great man’s wit.

If you like what you read, take a look at Slaughterhouse Five and Welcome to the Monkey House. Vonnegut has1 the kind of spare, dry, muscular, witty style that copywriters can learn from.

1. That’s a literary critical “has”. He died in April. So it goes.

I’ve completely forgotten what I last said in my comment, but I must say that transition from Blogger to Wordpress seems snag free! The blog looks as beautiful as ever, and - gee - trackbacks!
